Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 is one of the most powerful consumer protections in UK law, yet many people do not know about it. If you paid for goods or services costing between £100 and £30,000 using a credit card, the credit card company is jointly liable with the seller if something goes wrong. This means you can claim your money back from the card company even if the seller has gone bust, refuses to help, or is based overseas.
Crucially, you do not need to have paid the full amount on the credit card. Even a small deposit on credit card can trigger full Section 75 protection for the entire purchase. This tool checks whether Section 75 applies to your situation and explains how to make a claim.
